The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) released the ISO 26000 Guidance on social responsibility on 1 November 2010. It aims to contribute to global sustainable development by encouraging business and other organisations to practice social responsibility to improve their impacts on their workers, their natural environments and their communities.
Organisations, big or small, can apply the concepts of ISO 26000 regardless of their type or location. ISO 26000 is not a management system standard for certification but a guidance document. Complementing existing laws and initiatives, it provides a framework to achieve the benefits of corporate social responsibility.
